Corn husking record attempt, Laura Empringham, Rebecca Empringham and Sarah Murphy look forward to this event in Sept. 2012.

Since its founding 168 years ago Markham Fair has established many records and a multitude of participants and contestants have established personal bests throughout those years, as well.

Many of the records established have been for the local communities and the Province. With the cooperation and involvement of Guinness World Records this year is the Fair’s opportunity to make an attempt at establishing a new agricultural record.

The challenge will be to attempt to break the record for most corn husked in one minute by a four person team at Markham Fair on Saturday, September 29, 2012. An Official Adjudicator representing Guinness World Records will be on hand to oversee, supervise and time this historic event, as well as to confirm record status of the event for entry in the Guinness Book of Records.

Participants of this event must register before the event.  Rules and Registration information are available on markhamfair.ca.

The event will take place in the Livestock Arena. Participants will need to assemble near the Livestock Lobby at 2:00PM on Saturday Sept 29, 2012 for instructions as this record breaking challenge will start at 2:30PM sharp.

Participants will be interested to know that all corn used in the event will be sent to area farms to feed animals. All participants must arrive by 2:00PM or earlier to obtain registration and a wrist band. Video of all participants will be taken during the entire challenge event.

This will be a fun event which will leave you with a real sense of community, and personal memories of making a personal historic relationship with Markham Fair, which has been part of Markham and surrounding communities since 1844.
