There are 25 Fairs and Agricultural Societies in the district in which Markham operates. This year’s annual meeting was held in Elmvale on October 27, 2012. Flos Agricultural Society was the host. The meeting, banquet and other activities were held at the Presbyterian Church in Elmvale (Just North-West of Barrie)
The purpose of this meeting is to review the past year, discuss the financials and elect newly opened positions in the District 5 Executive. An ambassador program is also run from 9AM to 2:30PM.
One of the other reasons we gather at the district level is to decide which quilt, bread, cookies and poster will represent District 5 at the All Ontario competition in February 2013 at the Royal York Hotel.
We are proud to say that the District 5 Judges have picked the quilt and poster winners from Markham Fair to represent our district this coming winter.
Congratulations to Caitlin Hollands (Youth Poster – 1st place) and Jean Stephens for her quilt called “the Mariners Compass”. Good luck and we look forward to the Ontario competition in February.

Dave and Margaret Hollands
Congratulations to our artistic granddaughter. Good luck in February. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if your poster gets first prize then.
