MARKHAM FAIR AMBASSADOR CONTEST Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Who is eligible to compete in the Markham Fair Ambassador Contest?
A: Young women and men between the ages of 18 and 24 by August of 2010.

Q: What would be my duties as an Ambassador of Markham Fair.
A: Duties at the Fair - some public speaking, handing out ribbons, talking with the general public. Duties at the District Meeting - You will meet all the other Ambassador's in our Region(last Saturday of October). Duties at the President’s Ball (early November) - Dinner with the many volunteers - you will make a speech on the subject of what you have done during the Fair as well as offer thanks and recognition. Duties at the Christmas Parades in Markham (last Saturday in November) and Stouffville (first Saturday in December) participating with our volunteers on our parade entry. Duties at the Provincial Fair Convention ( Mid February) - a three day convention in Toronto to prepare for the CNE and learning new life skills. Duties at the C.N.E. - You will represent Markham Fair in the CNE Ambassador Competition held the first three days of the CNE with the chance of becoming the CNE Ambassador (August 2010).

Q: What is the Markham Fair looking for in a contestant?
A: We are looking for someone to best represent our Fair and our community. The successful candidates must possess the following qualities:

  • A people person.
  • Good public speaking skills.
  • Outgoing and energetic.

Q: When is the Markham Fair?
A: October 1, 2, 3, 4, 2009

Q: Where will the contest be held?
A: At the Markham Fair Grounds 2 weeks before the fair.

Q: What should I wear?
A: Wear clothing appropriate for a job interview.

Q: What sort of questions might I be asked during the contest?
A: You could be asked; general Fair questions, about the President of the Fair, about what's in the Homecraft Building, what you like most about the Fair, about issues in the community or province, about your hobbies/ interests/community involvement/goals, or about general farm questions (don’t worry if you are not from a rural background). Prejudging will include an interview with the judges and a short quiz and the portion of the competition at the fair grounds will include some public speaking and interaction with the general public.
