Markham Fair and the Markham and East York Agricultural Society are fully committed to providing a safe environment for all animals being housed on our fairgrounds.  We consider the health and well-being of all animals to be of the utmost importance. Animals are cared for in compliance with Provincial and Federal regulations. If a visitor feels an animal is in distress please notify a committee member.

Important Message: Avian Influenza

Markham Fair continues to put the health and safety of our animals and visitors as a top priority. As a result of a recent confirmation of avian influenza (flu) in a commercial poultry farm within 200 kilometres of the Fair, we are required to take precautions to protect the birds in our care. Through our discussions with Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA), there will be no poultry at the 2022 Markham Fair. While this strain of the disease is highly contagious and lethal to birds, it is important to note there have been no human cases detected in Canada.
