Before entering any of the Beef Cattle Sections, please refer to the General Rules And Regulations at the front of this prize book as well as the following:
Additional Rules:
- Beef cattle will be shown on Saturday, October 1st and Sunday, October 2nd at the time stated for each breed.
- All animals are to be in the Livestock Building by 9:00 a.m. on the day that they are to be shown and no animal is to leave the barn or the Markham Fair Grounds before 5:00 p.m. of show day. There will be no prize money paid to any who remove cattle earlier.
- Each Exhibitor will pay a $5.00 Exhibitor fee, and entry fees for all breeds will be $5.00 per animal; a cheque for this amount must accompany your entry form. All entry fee money is returned as prize money. Entries must be made on the livestock entry form giving all the information requested. Registration numbers of all animals must accompany the application; those pending will not be eligible to show at the fair.
- Health Requirements: All animals must be free of Mange, Ringworm, and Pink Eye. A Veterinarian will inspect every animal and will refuse any animals that show symptoms of an infectious disease.
- Each breeding unit may have a total of 10 entries. Each exhibitor may show (3) three animals per Class in a maximum of (3) three Classes, except in the Breeders Herd and Get-Of-Sire Classes.
- All animals being shown in single Classes must be registered at time of closing date of entries, excepting calves (which must be properly tattooed) in the two year old and mature cow/calf Classes. All animals must be legibly tattooed.
- Closing date for livestock entry forms is September 15th, by 8 p.m.
Prize Money:1st – $65.00; 2nd – $60.00; 3rd – $50.00; 4th – $40.00; 5th – $35.00; 6th – $30.00; 7th – $25.00; 8th – 20.00
Section 26 – Shorthorn Cattle
To be shown: Saturday, October 1st starting at 12:00 noon.
Judge: Bernard Leahy
- Shorthorn Plus, 2011 Heifer – must be registered with a percentage of pureblood.
- Shorthorn Plus 2011 Bull – must be registered with a percentage of pureblood.
- Shorthorn Plus Yearling – must be registered with a percentage of pure blood.
Prize Money 50% of entry fees – (Class #15):
(Entry fee $5.00 – Entries accepted day of show only).
- Adult Showmanship (over 21 years).
Junior Royal Heifer Prep. Shorthorn Show:
Additional Rules:
- Any junior can show as long as they have an Ontario Junior membership which will be available for purchase at Show time for $5.
- In the conformation class the animal must be owned by the junior or close family member (parents, grandparents, aunt/uncle, brother/sister or legal guardian).
(Ribbon classes only – for 1st, 2nd & 3rd

Showmanship Classes:
- Peewee (under 10 years).
- Junior (10-12 years).
- Intermediate (13-15 years).
- Senior (16-21 years).
Conformation classes:
- Heifer calves.
- Yearling heifers.
Section 28 – All Other Breeds
We regret that there will not be a Sunday Open Beef Show for the 2011 Markham Fair. We will be working with the beef associations with the goal of renewing the interest of potential competitors for a full show in 2012.
To be shown on Sunday, October 2nd at 1:00 p.m.
Open to any registered beef breed except Shorthorn..
No late entries.

Show Classes For All Breeds:
- Bull Calf – Born on or after January 1st, 2011 minimum of 3 months of age on day of judging.
- Bull. Yearling – Born April 1st, 2010 to December 31, 2010.
- Bull. Yearling – Born January 1st, 2010 to March 31, 2010.
- Bull. Born January 1st, 2009 to December 31st, 2009.
- Female Calf – Born on or after January 1st, 2011 minimum of 3 months of age on day of judging.
- Heifer – Born April 1st, 2010 to December 31st, 2010.
- Heifer – Born January 1st, 2010 to March 31st, 2010
- Female – Born January 1st, 2009 to December 31, 2009 with her own 2011 natural, purebred tattooed calf at foot. Female and calf shall be shown as a unit.
- Female – born prior to January 1st, 2009 with her own 2011 natural, purebred, tattooed calf at foot. Female and calf shall be shown as a unit.
- Breeder’s Herd – a group of 4 animals bred by the exhibitor, both sexes represented, must be exhibited in previous classes. At least one animal must be owned by the exhibitor. Limited to one exhibit per exhibitor.
- Get-of-Sire – a group of three (3) animals from the same sire, both sexes to be represented. At least one animal must be owned by the exhibitor. All animals must have been exhibited in previous classes. Limited to one entry per exhibitor.
The Markham Fair will supply Grand Champion Rosettes and Reserve Champion Rosettes, both Bull and Female, for each Breed.
