From Thursday night rides to the Children’s petal pull on Sunday afternoon, the Markham Fair is always packed with enjoyable events. This year was no exception. Having grown up enjoying Old McDonalds and the Fair made being the 2010 Markham Fair Ambassador both an honour and a privilege. I had so much fun expanding my knowledge of the Markham Fair and agriculture by being able to see the many different aspects of the Fair.

I would like to thank my incredible Ambassador Team; Victoria Campbell, Leslie Morrison and Christine Blizzard. They were with me the whole way and we made so many great memories. From milking a cow, handing out ribbons and riding the monster truck, every experience was a great one and I owe part of that to them.

In December 2010 the Ambassador Team and I participated in both the Stouffville and Markham Santa Claus Parades. Then in February I had the opportunity to represent the Markham Fair at the 2011 Ontario Association of Agriculture Societies Convention at the Royal York Hotel in Toronto. As the summer approaches I become more and more excited at my chance to represent the Markham Fair at the CNE. I have enjoyed my time as the 2010 Markham Fair Ambassador and being able to represent the Fair will be a great way to end my term.

After 166 years the Markham Fair is still running strong, thanks to a very dedicated group of volunteers. The Fair is a long running tradition that has become like a second family and home to many of these volunteers.

I would also like to thank the many committees, office staff and Board of Directors for their time and effort put into the Fair. I would especially like to thank the 2010 Markham Fair President, Kevin Holland’s, for a great year.

I look forward to making many more memories at the Markham Fair. All starts next year, so come out and join in the fun.
