Standardbred Racing

Markham Fair is pleased to present Standardbred Racing (pari-mutual betting) on Sunday October 4, 2009, from 1 to 5 PM.

For one day a year, live horse racing comes to Markham. Markham Fair presents an opportunity to bet on your favourite of ten heats of thundering standard bred horse racing. Drivers maneuver their Sulkies to be first over the finish line. Horse racing has been a tradition at Markham Fair since the late 1800’s when the local farmers would gather to challenge each other as to who had the fastest steed.

On Sunday, visitors can get up close on the rail to the drivers and horses, to help appraise and decide how to bet. Programs are provided with past performance and statistics.
