2015 was an amazing year for beef shows at the Markham Fair. For the first time in many years we hosted four beef shows. Saturday we hosted the All Ontario Shorthorn Show and our first ever Blonde d’Acquitaine Show. It was exciting to have a second show on the Saturday of the fair and we were happy to welcome some new breeders and a new breed to our barn and livestock ring.
Sunday was a sensational day. We hosted an ‘All Other Breeds Show’ and the ‘All Ontario Limousin Show’. We are pleased to announce that this year the ‘All Ontario Limousin Show’ hosted by the Markham Fair was the largest Limousin show in Canada! The barn was bursting at the seams with 129 cattle. We had concerns about fitting them all in the barn and had an outdoor overflow plan in place just in case we needed it. Luckily everyone fit.
Bev Wilkins did her usual, fantastic job of speaking to the breeds, their histories and the attributes of the cattle. We also had some good judges. Our Limousin judge had his work cut out for him with a class consisting of 3 heats of 10 yearling heifers that were all of excellent quality. We hope we can create the same kind of challenges for our judges in 2016.
It was great to have a weekend with a barn full of Limousins, Blonde d’Acquitaines, Shorthorns, Charolais, Angus, Simentals, and more breeds. Thank you to all the breeders that showed at Markham Fair in 2015. We hope to see you all back next year. And please bring your friends!
