Sarah Mast - 2018 Markham Fair Ambassador

Sarah Mast – 2018 Markham Fair Ambassador

Attending the Markham fair has been a family tradition for as long as I can remember.  I have fond memories of making crafts, the weeks leading up to the fair, and anticipating to find out how they placed in the homecraft buildings.  I also remember riding around on my pony, in the small horse show, trying not to let an egg fall off my spoon.  I fondly remember spending all weekend at the fair, experiencing all the wonders and excitements it had to offer.

I cherish these memories, and all the time that I have spent at the fair with my family.  My Sister Ashley Mast was selected as the Markham Fair Ambassador in 2005, which is a big reason why I wanted to experience this honor myself, and express my love for the fair.  Having the incredible opportunity of being the 2018/2019 Markham Fair Ambassador is a great honour, and I feel very privileged to represent such an exceptional organization.

The Markham Fair is a place where family and community come together, and celebrate time honoured agricultural traditions.  However, this would not possible if not for the hard work and dedication of numerous volunteers and committee members, whose hard work often goes on unnoticed, behind the scenes.  Prior to being the Ambassador I never grasped the immense amount of work that goes into the fair each and every year.  Now that I am a part of the fair family, and have been immersed with these wonderful people, I see how their dedication and hard work makes the fair so successful year after year.

Thank you to Doug Van Wolde the 2018 president for making the 4 days of the fair so exciting, and for always being around to capture precious fair moments with your camera.  A huge thank you to the ambassador committee for supporting me, and allowing me to be a part of the fair and its activities.  I also want to acknowledge my wonderful junior ambassadors, you have greatly added to my experience during the weekend of the fair.  And an overall thank you to everyone who puts time and effort into the planning and production of the fair!  Your dedication is admirable!

The Markham fair has made a huge impact on my life over the years, and will undoubtedly continue to in the years to come.  Now as we prepare for another exciting fair year, please come and join me at the 2019 Markham fair; where you can make memories that will last a lifetime, and experience all the wonders and excitement the fair has to offer.

It was my 4-H family that first introduced me to the endless opportunities the Markham Fair Ambassador Program had to offer. Seeing many of my friends and family come out of the experience with fresh idea’s about what the fair meant and what is had to offer was intriguing. It was with their support that I decided I was going to do whatever I could to get involved in such an important role. In doing so, I learned more things about the fair in the four days than I had learned in the 12 years I’d been attending it. As the 2018 Lead Junior Ambassador, I attended many a show for agriculture, handed out a plethora of ribbons, and walked the grounds from event to event each day. The experience granted me access to the fair that I’d never seen before and provided me with learning opportunities like nothing else! As my duties come to a end, I’d like to thank Sarah Mast, 2018 Markham Fair Ambassador, Thaniya Sugunakumar, 2018 Markham Junior Ambassador, and the rest of the Ambassador team for making this year unforgettable! I would also like to take the time to thank Doug Van Wolde, the 2018 Markham Fair President, for putting on an incredible fair and all the volunteers for their hard work.
