Recognizing Outstanding Contributions to our Community
Volunteer of the Year
The “Volunteer of the Year” Award is presented by the volunteers of Markham Fair annually to a deserving Grade 8 student at a participating school in York Region. Markham Fair has been a family tradition celebrating and promoting agriculture since 1844, and is operated by hundreds of volunteers.
This award recognizes the importance of volunteering within our communities, and encourages youth to actively participate in community-building activities.
The selected student must.

- Have participated during the past year as a volunteer in community-based activities that contribute to the economic, social or cultural betterment of the community
- Have demonstrated commitment, perseverance, and leadership in those activities
A plaque will be presented to each participating school, and the name of the award winner will be engraved on the plaque annually. Additionally, each award winner will receive an individual plaque of his/her own.
A committee of teachers/administrators at each school will select the award winner based on the criteria provided.
