2017 was another great year for beef shows at the Markham Fair. We hosted four successful beef shows. On Saturday we hosted the ‘All Ontario Shorthorn Show’ and the growing ‘Blonde d’Acquitaine Show’. It was exciting to see many young show people in the York and Interclub 4H shows as well as in the breeds’ showmanship shows. This year was the first youth show for the Blonde d’Aquitaines. We hope it is the first of many.

Sunday was a sensational day. We hosted an ‘All Other Breeds Show’ and the ‘All Ontario Limousin Show’. The barn was bursting at the seams with 111 cattle. We had concerns about fitting them all in the East barn and arranged for some cattle to be in the West barn. It worked well for the flow of the show and gave the breeders more space to prepare their cattle for the ring.

Bev Wilkins did her usual, fantastic job of speaking to the breeds, their histories and the attributes of the cattle. We also had some good judges. Our Limousin judge had his work cut out for him with the calf classes. There were 12 bull calves and 27 heifer calves! There was also a Senior Yearling Heifer class of 28 animals. All of the entries were of excellent quality the judge worked hard that day! We hope we can create the same kind of challenges for our judges in 2018.

It was great to have a weekend with a barn full of Limousins, Blonde d’Acquitaines, Shorthorns, Charolais, Angus, Simentals, and more breeds. Thank you to all the breeders that showed at Markham Fair in 2017. We hope to see you all back next year. And please bring your friends!
