Markham Fair General Manager Todd Silverman, Faircrow, (Markham Fair’s Mascot), and Markham Fair’s 2018 President Doug van Wolde present a cheque to Allan Bell, Director of Markham Stouffville Hospital Foundation and Dr. Bear Program. The cheque is presented on behalf of Markham Fair and World’s Finest Shows.
For a number of years Markham Fair and World’s Finest Shows have felt passionate about donating to Markham Stouffville Hospital’s Dr. Bear program.
In years gone by,, Markham Fair would hold its annual beef auction where World’s Finest Shows would purchase the 1st place 4H beef calf and donate the meat from this sale to local retirement and special needs homes to help compensate the cost of providing meals to the residents of these homes. The last beef auction was held at Markham Fair in 2000, however, World’s Finest Shows still felt strongly about their continued partnership with Markham Fair in donating to a local charity in the Markham/Stouffville area.
At that time, the idea of donating to the Dr. Bear program was introduced by the Manager of Markham Fair, the late Dave Morrison, and has been an annual tradition ever since.
“I’m very grateful to World’s Finest Shows for their continued support and especially pleased to make the presentation this year. I’ve been behind the camera capturing this moment each year since Dave launched the idea. Dave was a good friend, this makes the contribution even more special to me.”, Doug said after the cheque presentation.
On May 9, 2019 Markham Fair, on behalf of World’s Finest Shows, once again presented a cheque to Markham Stouffville Hospital continuing an eighteen year tradition of contributing to this very worthwhile charity and wishing the Dr. Bear program continued success.
